Abstract

The processed wood industry urgently needs a dryer to improve the quality of its production. One of the important components in a dryer is a heat exchanger. To support a durable heat transfer process, a superior material is needed. The aim of the study was to compare the cross-flow flat plate heat exchanger material to be used on wood dryers and analyze heat transfer simulations on cross-flow flat plate heat exchangers using Computational Fluid Dynamic. The results showed that there were variations in the temperature out of dry air and gas on flat plate heat exchangers and copper materials had better heat delivery by achieving dry air and gas exit temperatures in flat plate type heat exchangers of cross flow respectively 43.57 °C and 216.95 °C. The overall heat transfer coefficient value and the heat exchanger effectiveness value of the heat transfer characteristics that occur with cross-flow flat plate type heat exchangers in copper materials are 251.75 W/K and 0.25.
